Joanne Brackeen Snooze
Joanne Brackeen Snooze
American pianist and composer Joanne Brackeen has been called the “Picasso of jazz piano”, for her unique style and complex improvisations. Her work is at the forefront of what avant-garde jazz can be and she has long been one of the giants of modal, post-pop piano. Snooze from 1975 is Brackeen's extraordinary debut album. Featuring four outstanding Brackeen compositions, along with her take on Wayne Shorter’s Nefertiti, Miles Davis’ Circles, and the standard Old Devil Moon.
A child prodigy, Brackeen began performing professionally by the time she was 12 years old. She has worked with such luminaries as George Benson, Lee Dexter Gordon, Bobby Hutcherson, Art Blakey, Jo Henderson and Stan Getz. Shortly after this recording, Brackeen joined Stan Getz's group where she garnered significant exposure that further shaped her long career. It should be noted that subsequent reissues of this work have been greatly altered. Here Candid Records is proud to present the album as it was originally released, with original album title, original track running order and original album artwork. The recording has been remastered by legendary mastering engineer Bernie Grundman.
